Holomisa weighs in on Zuma's supposed demands

United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader, Bantu Holomisa, says the African National Congress (ANC) doesn't know what they are trying to achieve by allowing President Jacob Zuma to hold them to ransom.

Holomisa's comments follow mounting speculation and allegations that President Zuma will only step down if he receives full security for himself and his family.

The President is allegedly also demanding the state pays the legal fees for his current and forthcoming legal challenges.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has been leading the talks with the President for the past week - to secure his exit.

Holomisa says it is not the ANC's place to negotiate such conditions.

"If the ANC wants to recall him, they must recall him without conditions and then he can argue his case outside the Union Buildings," Holomisa says.

Holomisa says it sets a bad precedence because if the country allows a suspect to negotiate his freedom instead of standing trial, all other suspects with political power will demand the same deal.

"Why must we pay for Mr Zuma's legal fees? Seemingly the soon-to-be former president is a suspect of a different kind. Why must he be treated any differently from any other suspected criminal and get special treatment?," adds Holomisa.

"ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa, you and your colleagues must stop this nonsense and these backdoor negotiations must be dropped; the Country can no longer be held at ransom," Holomisa exclaims.

Weighing in on the opposition party national shut down called by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Holomisa says they will be meeting on Monday afternoon in Cape Town to discuss the way forward.
