An official from the Department of Home Affairs will appear in court this morning for the issuing of a fraudulent passport.
The woman was arrested for issuing a fraudulent passport in the name of Lebogang Ndlovu to a Bangladeshi citizen.
The official, who is stationed at the Benoni branch of Home Affairs, was arrested on Monday by the Hawks and has since been suspended.
She is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
A photo is a passport issued to Bangladeshi national Fahim Kazi that went viral on social media after he was arrested for trying to skip the country in May.
Last month Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said that the official had been on the radar of the counter-corruption branch.
“We will continue to arrest citizens and non-nationals who engage in the production of fraudulent documents. If you sell your identity we will arrest you and you will not be able to access services in the country.”
