Hope that Alex can switch the lights back on by lunch time

City Power says plans are progressing to restore electricity to more than half of Alexandra by lunch time on Thursday.
This follows the fire which erupted at the Vasco Da Gama substation on Tuesday and plunged areas betwee 2nd Avenue and 18th Avenue into darkness.
City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says technicians succeeded in completed major work in the early hours of Thursday morning.
"We have completed the repairs, the only issue is accessing power from Eskom's side. However, we should be restoring electricity any moment before lunchtime."
It is the same substation that also caught fire more than two weeks ago and also caused a black out over the same area.
Mangena adds that an investigation into that fire is still ongoing.
The switching substation is over 50 years old and the process is also underway to build a new substation as part of upgrading electricity infrastructure across the Alexandra township in the north of Johannesburg.
