Three women were burnt beyond recognition in a head-on collision which claimed eight lives in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District in North West on Saturday.
The victims include a 3-month-old baby.
MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management Sello Lehari says both vehicles burst into flames, making it difficult to rescue the trapped victims.
"The accident took place around midday on Saturday, when the sedans travelling on opposite directions collided. Four other passengers also died at the scene of the accident bringing a total to seven, four of whom are women.”
A 29-year-old woman survived the crash and was rushed to hospital along with her 3-month-old baby.
“Sadly, it has been discovered that the baby passed on as they arrived at the hospital,” says Lehari.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
