‘Hostage situation’ at Protea South Clinic

The City of Johannesburg is concerned over what is believes to be a spike in criminals targeting township clinics.
A hostage situation played out at the Protea South Clinic in Soweto on Thursday, when two unarmed patients demanded to be serviced by clinic staff after working hours.
Health and Social Development MMC Mpho Phalatse explains what happened:
"We improve on security all the time, we're working with the JMPD since we've enforced security in the City of Johannesburg. We do continuous assessments of all our facilities, we're even aware of which facililties are high risk and those that require even more security," she says.
No arrests have been made.
