The Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela reached an agreement with the more than 1000 protesting community members.
"We agree the protests must come to an end. We then agreed the municipality will make a site available [and] we will assist the municipality to service the site," explains Madikizela, "all the community wants is for the site to be sub-divided as they are paying high rentals from their land lords."
The MEC however says plans to build homes on the allocated piece of land will come at a later stage.
