[LIVE BLOG] Hundreds picket at Eskom headquarters
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Disgruntled Eskom workers gathered outside the power utility’s Megawatt Park headquarters on Thursday – demanding a wage increase.
The employees are unhappy with Eskom’s decision not to offer a wage increase this year.
Eskom maintains it doesn’t have funds to supply employees with increments.
But striking workers argue that they can’t bear the brunt of the state capture that has left the power utility cash-strapped.
“Workers cannot pay for sins of management,” read one of the placards.
Eskom Group CEO Phakamani Hadebe warned on Wednesday that there could be power cuts if the pickets descend into chaos.
Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe confirmed on Twitter that some employees at power stations around the country are experiencing intimidation.
