Magashule and his co-accused appeared in the High Court in Bloemfontein on Monday.

They are facing charges of corruption, theft, and money laundering relating to multi-million-rand asbestos tender corruption in the Free State.

Magashule, who is also the former premier of the province, wants the charges to be withdrawn, saying charges against him are politically motivated.

“The charges are really trumped up. I was wrongfully charged; I was not supposed to be charged. I am not an accounting officer by law. I have not received any cent; we want to hear what it is they want from me.”

The state has filed papers to have Magashule’s former personal assistant Moroadi Cholota to be extradited from the United States to give evidence.

“The pre-trial hearing is being remanded to the 10th of June 2022 all the accused are expected to be here in this court at 09H00 in the morning” judge Judge Soma Naidoo said.

Magashule supporters gathered outside the court demanding charges to be dropped.
