ICASA lays criminal charge against SABC
Updated | By Sune du Toit
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has opened a criminal case against the SABC in terms of its Act.

ICASA's Paseka Maleka says the charges come after the public broadcaster failed to comply with its order regarding the coverage of violent protests.
The charges were laid last week.

The authority ordered the SABC to rescind its policy not to broadcast footage of violence during protests earlier this year.
"The withdrawal was to be done retrospectively from the date when the resolution was taken. The SABC was also directed to write to ICASA to confirm in writing within seven days from that date to say the decision of ICASA was going to be effected as ordered," says Maleka.
