"There are times when one's tolerance levels are pushed to the limit. This process is inevitable, it's going to take place anyway. There is a time when we have to put our foot down and say no," says MP Makhosi Khoza.

The committee is sitting for the first time after its inquiry was halted by a court application to have it stopped.

Prof Mbulaheni Maguvhe, who is the SABC chairperson and the only remaining non-executive member of the public broadcaster's board, approached the Western Cape High Court to interdict the committee from instituting an inquiry.

His application was set aside, but he has vowed to continue his fight.

Committee chairperson Vincent Smith says they will continue, despite this.

"There is no court order as we speak that prevents this committee from continuing its work and so shall it be. We will continue today," says Vincent Smith

MPs voiced their frustration after the SABC board said it could not supply all the documents the committee requested, because it could have negative impacts on the public broadcaster's finances if it were made public.

The SABC delegation has since walked out.
