IEC rejects Action SA appeal to be registered as political party
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has rejected an appeal by Herman Mashaba’s newly formed political party, Action SA to be registered as a political party.

Mashaba says the party has been left surprised by the decision but will consult its legal team to study the decision.
“ActionSA is shocked by the decision of the commission, and the basis upon which the commission has rationalised its decision. We remain deeply concerned that a Chapter 9 Institution, charged with safeguarding our electoral democracy, can make important legal decisions in this manner.

“ActionSA is currently consulting its legal team to study the Commission’s reasons to uphold the decision of the Chief Electoral Officer.”
In September, the IEC rejected Action SA’s application to be registered as a political party after a perceived similarity with another political party and the use of the South African flag in the logo.
