Illegal cigarettes worth R10m seized in Sandton

Illicit cigarettes to the value of R10 million were seized when Gauteng police stopped and searched a truck in Sandton on Monday.
Five suspects were also arrested in connection with the illegal smokes.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello says the provincial organised crime unit, West Rand K9 and customs from the South African Revenue Service were involved in the operation.

"The team stopped and searched a truck with five occupants at Greyston Square whereby a consignment of illicit cigarettes was discovered.
“The illicit cigarettes estimated to approximately R10 million were seized and the five arrested suspects are expected to appear before Sandton Magistrates' Court soon on a charge of possession of illicit cigarettes.”
