The ANC’s David Mahlobo has sent his condolences to the family of the Rand Water executive who was shot and killed in Zakariyya Park, in the south of Johannesburg, on Monday.
Teboho Joala was killed at a back-to-school event organised by Rand Water.
Three people, including Johannesburg’s chief whip of council, Sithembiso Zungu, were wounded in the attack.

Speaking at the ANC NEC lekgotla briefing, Mahlobo, also the deputy minister of water and sanitation, said while the incident cannot yet be linked to any water project disputes, the sector has seen an increase in these killings.
"In water indeed, we have lost people and our condolences to the family of the group executive.
"At this stage, we cannot confirm whether his death is related to water or not, but we know that in eThekwini, they have lost a number of people working in water.
“Certain people have been killed, and in certain instances, our projects have been stopped".
