Petrol prices went up by between 23 cents and 26 cents per litre on Wednesday, while the price diesel increased by between 24 and 26 cents.
This means motorists would be paying more than R16 per litre for petrol for the first time.
Meanwhile, illuminated paraffin increased by 22 cents per litre and Gas Retail Price went up 37 cents per kilogram.
The Automobile Association's Layton Beard says the weak rand and higher international oil prices were the main culprits.
However, motorists might want to know what they are paying for when filling up their tanks.
