‘Insufficient evidence’ against teen arrested for Meiki Khune murder
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The 17-year-old boy who was arrested in connection with the murder of Meiki Khune has been released from custody.
Khune, the sister of Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, was found burnt beyond recognition last week Thursday.
The incident took place at her grandmother's backyard rooms in Ventersdorp.
The provincial National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) spokesperson Henry Mamothame said at this point there is insufficient evidence to prosecute the teenager.
"Following a thorough study of the docket and consultation with the police, the NPA resolved that the docket be returned to the police for further investigations and the accused to be released.”
The suspect was arrested last week Friday.
