IPID considering additional charges after Hout Bay shooting
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says it might add additional charges after police failed to report a shooting incident during community protests in Hout Bay in the Western Cape.
IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini says police are required to report incidents involving officers as is required by the IPID Act.
"If no valid reasons are advanced for not reporting, additional charges will be added," explains Dlamini.
But the police watchdog only learned of the incident after a video surfaced on social media.
It shows the injured boy emerge from behind a wooden table as police approach firing rubber bullets.
The 14-year-old boy was shot in the mouth on Tuesday.
He has since been taken to hospital.
Dlamini says officials visited the mother of the victim and obtained her statement on Thursday.
A case of attempted murder is being investigated.
