The detective was arrested for assaulting his partner in August last year but was subsequently released on bail.

This week photos of the woman emerged on social media with bruises and blood on her face.

Ipid spokesperson Lizzy Suping has refuted claims that the directorate refused to assist the woman after the accused violated his bail conditions.

"The bail conditions were that he should not be in contact with the victim. The woman tried to withdraw the case, but the request was declined by the State, and she was informed that gender-based violence and femicide cases cannot be withdrawn.

"Based on the latest images on social media, Ipid has contacted the victim and will ensure that she opens another case against her partner. The new information will be used to apply to court to revoke his bail."

The suspect is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court again on 27 March.
