Ipid probing death of protestor

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the death of a man who was allegedly shot by the police during a community protests in Ratanda township in Heidelberg.
The community has been protesting since Monday over power outages, blaming the municipality for cutting off electricity to indigents and non-payers.
On Wednesday, a protestor was shot and killed after an attack on a police nyala.

Ipid spokesperson Sontaga Seisa says no arrests have been made.
"Ipid confirms that has received and currently started investigation subsequent to the death of an adult male who is alleged to have been shot by the police during the protests in Ratanda.
"It is a new incident that need to be thoroughly investigated before considering any arrest."
