Ipid probing death of Tshegofatso Selahle
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has taken over the investigation into the death of Tshegofatso Selahle, who died in police custody in Sandton.
The 35-year-old Selahle succumbed to his injuries on Sunday following an incident with Johannesburg metro police officers the previous night.
Police spokesperson Wayne Minaar says Selahle resisted arrest after skipping a red traffic light on William Nicol and Sandton Drive, resulting in a call for back-up.

"The driver stopped, then sped off resulting in a chase. The driver of the Audi then collided with a curve and landed inside a park. The driver was aggressive and resisted arrest and he was under the influence of alcohol."
Ipid acting spokesperson Sontaga Seisa says they will be interviewing witnesses.
"As we speak now we cannot say exactly what the cause of the death is but there are allegations that the police might have had a hand in either contributing to the death of the deceased. Nobody has been arrested and we're carrying on with investigation."
