It pays to be in Cabinet, even with no salary increase

Top government officials will not be getting an increase on their salaries this year, but it still pays to be appointed to a Cabinet position.

This week government published a determination on the upper limit on Ministers, Premiers, and Members of Parliament (MPs) of both the national and provincial legislature’s salaries which has been signed off by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

 

However, Parliament will have to approve Ramaphosa’s remuneration.

The Deputy President, Speaker in the National Assembly, and Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces will each take home a maximum package of close to R3 Million. 

 

Ministers will receive a maximum package of R2.4 million while deputy Ministers will take home close to R2 Million.
