“Traffic will be diverted on roads in the Johannesburg CBD today for two protest marches,” says JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar.

“One group will march from Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown and the other group will march from Beyers Naude Square on Simmons Street.”

Minnaar says that traffic officers will be deployed at key routes as the protest is expected to start at 11am.

“Officers will divert traffic along Lilian Ngoyi Street, Simmons Street and Rissik Street. There will also be officers along De Korte Street, Hoofd Street and Joubert Street in Braamfontein.

“The protest marches should start at approximately 11am and finish by 1.30pm.”

He adds that destruction to property will not be tolerated.

“Officers will deal harshly with anyone who attempts to thrash the city or who intimidates other citizens.”
