On Friday heavy rains brought in flash floods in Alexandra along the Jukskei River.

Dozens of residents of Setjwetla informal settlement in Marlboro were forced to evacuate the river banks following torrential rainfall.

Joburg EMS Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says residents should avoid trying to cross flooded rivers.

"Overnight we did not have major incidents reported in all regions due to floods, we are still encouraging our residents in low-lying areas to not cross flooded rivers, and yesterday some motorists were trapped while trying to cross flooded areas.

"From our side as the city we have the special units on high alert and fire stations on full operation we should be able to respond to any incident throughout the city of Johannesburg."
