Joburg settles its water dispute with Gautrain
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
The City of Johannesburg and the Gautrain operator Bombela Concession have reached an agreement following an almost three-week water cut at the Sandton station.
The city cut the water supply in early September, accusing the property owner Cedar Park of failing to pay municipal rates and services since the registration of the property in its name in 2013.
The two parties managed to reach an out-of-court settlement on Tuesday which will see the water supply restored to the station.
Mayor Herman Mashaba's spokesperson Olebogeng Molatlhwa says the city has agreed to provide the station with its own meter, which will result in the city billing Gautrain directly for water usage.
"The city has agreed to install this new meter withing two days of Bombela paying the R136 000 in respect of the aforementioned water connection and associated installation costs," says Molatlhwa.
The city has confirmed that the payment has been received.
