Just over a week left to file tax income returns

This Saturday is the last Saturday for tax payers to file their tax income returns, the South African Revenue Services (SARS) warned on Wednesday.

SARS spokesperson Sandile Memela said that on Saturday November 21, there would be 25 SARS branches open for longer hours “in anticipation of an increase in the number of taxpayers who require assistance will filing their returns”.

These offices would be open from 8am to 1pm at the 25 branches in different provinces.

He said that last weekend, thousands of tax payers had streamed in to SARS offices located across South Africa to do last minute tax filing.

Over 3,7 million tax payers to date have filed income tax returns, a slight increase from 2014 data. It is estimated that 24,000 tax payers are filing returns on a daily basis, and it is expected that the numbers of people filing tax daily would increase as the tax season draws to a close.

The tax season ends on November 27.

Memela said “only issues relating to tax return submissions will be dealt with”. - ANA
