Kgomotso Diale murder accused to remain behind bars
Two men appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the murder of Pimville resident Kgomotso Diale.
Tebogo Molapo (29) and 33-year-old Mokhabi Ngoanapudi were charged with two counts of murder, six counts of attempted murder and two counts of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The 34-year-old Diale was killed at Chicken Farm informal settlement last week when residents and Operation Dudula members clashed during a confrontation about the theft of copper cables in Pimville, Soweto.
Four others were injured.
It's understood the second murder charge stems from the death of a third suspect killed during Molapo and Ngoanapudi's arrest later in the week.
"The duo was remanded in custody until 4 May 2022 for legal representation," says spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Phindi Mjonondwane.
Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the Diale family in the wake of the violent clash and vowed to get a handle of community's grievances, including a lack of police visibility and capacity.
Cele also warned the controversial Operation Dudula he would not stand for any activity outside of the ambit of the law.
Since last year, the movement has been at the centre of a heated debate over its conduct after members have taken it upon themselves to police illegal immigrants and suspected criminals across the province.
