The patrollers were attacked, shot, stoned, and partially burnt by unknown assailants while they were on duty over the weekend.

Preliminary reports indicate that the CPF members were conducting routine rounds when they encountered a group of men, leading to a violent confrontation.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident.

“We are deeply saddened by this heinous act of violence against those who selflessly worked to ensure the safety of their community. These attacks highlight the grave dangers CPF members and law enforcement officers face daily. We demand urgent action to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said POPCRU spokesperson Richard Mamabolo.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has ordered law enforcement agencies to arrest the suspects within 72 hours, while Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has strongly condemned the killings, promising swift action to hold those responsible accountable.

Mamabolo added that the tragedy underscores the increasing dangers CPF members face and the urgent need for improved safety measures for community patrollers.

"POPCRU has reiterated its call for a national dialogue on the protection of security personnel, advocating for stronger strategies to prevent such attacks in the future.

"The union also urged community members to cooperate with law enforcement by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.

"As authorities intensify efforts to track down the killers, POPCRU remains committed to advocating for the rights and protection of its members and ensuring that justice is served."

Police investigations into the incident continue.
