Dalindyebo was arrested after he allegedly assaulted members of the royal house and caused damage to property.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape says Dalindyebo will appear again at the Mthatha Magistrates Court on 1 June.

"He was charged with assault and he was released with warning on strct conditions that he should not interfere with witnesses," says the NPA's Luxolo Tyali.

The King's run-in with the law is likely to have put him on shaky ground with the Department of Correctional Services.

The 55-year-old is on parole after qualifying for a remission of his 12-year sentence announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last year.

Meanwhile, the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) says it will meet with the royal family soon.

"We were taken aback by that," says Contralesa's general-secretary Zolani Mkiva.

"We've not yet got the facts on the ground as to what transpired."
