Kruger rhinos to be dehorned in new anti-poaching push
Updated | By Thabo Tshabalala
The South African National Parks (SANParks) and other conservation partners in the Kruger region are implementing interventions to counter the continuation of rhino poaching.
According to SANParks
spokesperson, Ike Phaahla “certain entities” have embarked on a strategic dehorning of selected rhinos in the greater Kruger protected areas.
Phaahla added that this management action will go hand in hand with strengthening security measures, information sharing, and continuous collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
"The NPA is being briefed extensively on the current situation in order to deliver stiff sentences to those found in possession of ammunition and high calibre rifles and trespassing in a protected area with the intention to commit the crime."
