KZN ANC not open to two deputy presidents
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
The ANC's chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala, has come out against the suggestion of two deputy presidents.
President Jacob Zuma made the suggestion during his closing address at the party's policy conference.
Zikalala was speaking after a meeting between the Provincial Executive Committee's of KZN and Mpumalanga.
KwaZulu-Natal is generally considered to be in support of President Zuma, and by extension Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, ahead of the ANC's elective conference in December.
Zikalala, however, warns that there is unlikely to be agreement to an idea of two deputy presidents.
He says that they will rather push to have a consensus on leadership in order to avoid a bitter contestation between Cyril Ramaphosa and Dlamini-Zuma.
