This comes amid political turbulence in the ANC's biggest province two months ahead of the Local Government Election.

Former Premier Senzo Mchunu resigned in May and was replaced by Willies Mchunu.

The ANC in KZN has appointed provincial chairman Sihle Zikalala as the new MEC for Economic Development and Tourism.

The party announced that Mthandeni Dlungwane will take over from Peggy Nkonyeni as Education MEC, Bongi Sithole-Moloi replaces Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha as MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture and Themba Mthembu will be the new MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development - taking over from Cyril Xaba.

The party says the move follows an assessment of the provincial government departments - which it says is common practice and aimed at improving the work of those departments.

The ANC Provincial Secretary Super Zuma said all the outgoing MECs have been informed and that they understand that it's the ANC's prerogative to deploy and redeploy members.
