Labour Court grants Koko a stay of execution

Controversial Eskom executive
Matshela Koko has rejected an ultimatum by the power utility’s board to resign
within the next 24 hours or be fired.

Eskom’s new board has been given a directive by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to remove executives facing serious allegations of corruption.
Koko has so far refused to resign and turned to the Labour Court on Friday to challenge his removal from Eskom.
The court granted Koko an interim interdict, preventing his removal for the time being.

Eskom's spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe, says those accused of corruption are making life difficult for the parastatal.
He says Koko s being cited as a central figure in the allegations of corruption and this has led to Eskom having difficulty in obtaining loans.
"They are being told that there is a dark cloud hanging over Eskom and once it has been dealt with they will start entering into new agreements.”
