Labour Court grants temporary respite to COJ130

The Labour Court has thrown a lifeline to the 130 City of Johannesburg workers who are on the brink of unemployment.
This after the court granted the workers an interim interdict halting the February 25 council resolution that would see them jobless by the end of the month.
Last month acting city manager Mesuli Mlandu signed off on the council's decision to reverse the permanent employment of some staff.
The notices of regularisation would see the 130 contracts of employees attached to political offices converted back to fixed term.
But the workers, dubbed COJ130, fought back.
The city has now been interdicted from going ahead with the resolution pending the outcome of discussions at the bargaining council.
The South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) welcomed Friday's ruling.
"It's a victory, not just for Samwu but for other unions. This is something to refer to," said Samwu's Joburg deputy regional secretary Thobani Nkosi.
The city cannot advertise the job posts until the matter is resolved at the bargaining council.
It's unclear when discussions will get underway at the bargaining council.
"We are awaiting a date from the commissioners. As soon as they're available, they'll give us a date," Nkosi added.
