Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla has urged motorists to ensure caution on the roads amid Monday morning protests in Lawley and Ennerdale in the south of Johannesburg.
It is believed that the community is angry over poor service delivery.
Residents took to the streets on Monday morning, barricading roads with burning tires.
Affected roads include Lawley Road, James Street and Provincial Road.
Fihla says the sistuation was a bit tense at a stage.
"Officers have been deployed and they are clearing the roadway for traffic to flow. Expect heavy traffic disruptions as routes leaving Lawley and Ennerdale have been barricarded off.
"We also understand that residents of Lawley weill be marching to the Ennerdale Civic Centre to hand over a memorandum of demands. The officers will continue to monitor the protest action in the area and monitor the march which will be taking place later this morning (Monday)."
