According to ER24 paramedics a beehive was disturbed while maintenance workers were cutting grass at the school.

"Learners and staff of the school were assessed immediately," ER24's Chitra Bodasing Harduth told Jacaranda FM News.

She says at this stage it is understood that at least two patients are in a critical condition.

The rest of the patients are in a minor to moderate condition.

What to do when attacked by bees:

- Be aware of the triggers that encourage bees to attack, so that you can avoid provoking an attack.

- If bees start attacking, don't freeze, protect your face as you run.

- Run directly into the wind.

- Avoid getting into water.

- Run to a building shelter.

- Use any cover on hand if you cannot find shelter.
