Police confirmed that a group of residents blocked the Chris Hani road in the South of Johannesburg while police members were also deployed to Finetown in Soweto.
According to police spokesperson, Kay Makhubela they were trying to reopen both roads leading to the Golden Highway, while it was not clear what the community's grievances were.
"Our members are deployed to both areas and they are monitoring the situation," he told Jacaranda FM News on Thursday morning.
Gauteng police have already fired rubber bullets, to disperse protesters.
"At the moment the R55 is still blocked but our members will try and clear it soon," Makhubela said.
According to information both protests were as a result of a lack of service delivery to the areas.
