Legal action looms against Tshwane council over Mokgalapa
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have expressed their intention to head to court if Speaker of the City of Tshwane’s council fails to present a motion of no confidence against Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa.
The ANC and EFF have submitted motions of no confidence against Mokgalapa.
Speaker Katelgo Mathebe has been severed with a letter of demand over her failure to table a motion of no confidence in Mokgalapa brought by the ANC Tshwane caucus.
In the letter, regional chairperson Kgosi Maepa says all the rules have been followed and stopping the vote by councillors they will be approach a high court for an urgent interdict – ordering her to present the motion.
Maepa says they are also seeking a personal cost order against Mathebe.
The EFF’s deputy president Floyd Shivambu believes Mathebe will use frivolous technicalities to squash their motion.
He believes that Mathebe wants to frustrate the process.

He says Mathebe fails to be impartial and siding with the DA in a bid to allow Mokgalapa to survive another day.
Mokgalapa is on leave until 29 January.
