A sombre mood befell the Tembisa school last week Friday when unknown assailants opened fire on the 50-year-old woman, killing her outside the Phomolong Secondary school premises.

While speculation remains rife, the motive for the murder remains unknown.

Some community members believe it was a hit.

Family and friends gathered at the Hope Restoration Ministries in Edenvale to bid farewell to Ngendane on Saturday.

Ngendane’s husband and two children expressed disbelief, letting out deep sighs as they stood before a packed church.

Lesufi was also among the mourners.

“How we wish we could come to you with answers, how we wish we could come to you with any form of explanation, how we wish we could detail the motive behind so that all of us can respond to the question ‘But why?’,” said Lesufi.

“How will we comfort you when we are also in pain? How will we support you when we need support as well? How will we respond when we don’t know who to respond and how to respond?”

No arrests have yet been made.

Lesufi added the crime would not go unpunished.

“None of us present here thought we will meet like this today. None of the living of this world thought we’d bid farewell to somebody we love but a sinner, a selfish person decided that we should meet like this today.

“Our collective pain, our tears, our grief are not for free. We swear that those that did this will never enjoy peace. We swear that those that did this their sin will go deeper and deeper.

“As for these killers, forgiveness must escape them.”
