Lesufi to meet with Montana, Overkruin SGBs
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will meet with the School Governing Bodies (SGB) of Hoërskool Overkruin and Hoërskool Montana today.
The two predominantely Afrikaans school tried to prevent the department from placing more English learners at the schools by taking the department to court.
The court ruled the application not to be urgent.
An additional English class has since been made available to accommodate English learners at both Overkruin and Montana.
Lesufi has urged the schools to work with the department.
"I still believe and I am still convinced that there is no need to involve courts in matter of admission. We are adults. We can persuade each other, discuss and resolve these issues," says Lesufi.
Lesufi says the department is working around the clock to place every single learner who still needs a seat in a classroom.
"There must be not empty chair when there is are learners out there who want that chair. Every chair needs to be occupied. Every school needs to understand that the problem does not belong to the school alone, it belongs to all of us. Let's share the problem," says Lesufi.
