Lesufi meets with Overkruin and Montana high schools over placements
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says his department is working around the clock to place some 35 000 Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners who are still without a seat in a classroom.
This comes after the courts dismissed an application by Hoërskool Overkruin and Hoërskool Montana in Pretoria to stop the MEC from placing learners who want to study in English.
Lesufi led teams to both high schools to ensure the placement of learners.
He reassured parents at Overkruin Hoërskool that their children will be accommodated.
"Both the district and the school have made a class available for almost 40 learners. The district has also made the teaching personnel available for that class so we can clear that aspect immediately," says Lesufi.
Lesufi says the issue of admissions can be resolved without turning to the courts.
"We are adults. We can persuade each other and discuss and resolve these issues. I will meet with the School Governing Body (SGB) of the two schools, I will meet with the management of the district and I will meet with the management of the school so that I can hear their cases and try to resolve them," says Lesufi.
