Life Esidimeni: State proposes settlement
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Government has proposed a settlement amounting to R200 000 for each family who lost a loved one due to the transfer of patients from Life Esidimeni to ill-equipped NGO's.
Section 27, which represents 74 families and Solidarity which represents 4 families, announced the settlement on Thursday morning.
Legal Aid, which represents survivors of the tragedy, has not yet reached an agreement with the state and is yet to give their closing arguments.
Advocate Adila Hassim from Section 27 is arguing for constitutional damages.
This means that the families want Justice Dikgang Moseneke to give relief on violations of the constitution by the Gauteng health department.
