Lily Mine container will be retrieved, says Mashaba

Leader of the newly established political party The People’s Dialogue Herman Mashaba has launched legal proceedings to force government to retrieve the bodies of the trapped miners at Lily Mine.
The former Johannesburg mayor says says he will be heading to court to file an application compelling the government to investigate the matter.
“I am pleased to report that our legal team have lodged an application for the documents necessary to enjoin our government to retrieve the trapped miners at Lily Mine.

“The documents in question are the annexures that were used to substantiate a 2018 Health and Safety report which found that the container could not be retrieved,” he said.
It’s been four years since the Lily Mine disaster, when Solomon Nyerenda, Yvonne Mnisi and Pretty Nkambule were on duty at the mine in Barberton and the steel container they were in sunk into the ground.
Their bodies have never been retrieved, with the government and mine management saying the ground was too unstable to continue any rescue operation.
