The Polokwane High Court in Limpopo has sentenced teen killer Dimakatso Mochemi to 17 years behind bars.
Mochemi stood trial for the 2020 murder of 18-year-old grade 12 pupil Thoriso Kgomo.
The court heard on Tuesday that the teen who was stabbed in Seshego last year died of wounds to vital organs such as kidneys.
Kgomo’s killer testified that he acted in self-defence after Kgomo provoked him.
The teen succumbed to his wounds in hospital a few days after being stabbed.
The provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Mashudu Malabi- Dzhangi confirmed Mochemi was out on bail for the 2019 rape of a minor when he struck again.
“Dimakatso was acquitted for a count of rape and kidnapping,” said Malabi- Dzhangi.
“The court sentenced him to 17 years on a count of murder as he was 17-years of age at the time of offence,” she added.
Mochemi was allegedly part of a gang that had been terrorising the community.
