An education official in Limpopo has been arrested for corruption after he allegedly demanded a bribe in order to secure a bursary.
According to provincial Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke, the assistant director of the Limpopo Department of Education demanded a bribe of R4400 from a parent of a student at the University of Venda.
"We have arrested the assistant director of the Education Department after the matter was reported to the Hawks," Maluleke says.
He says Mbazima David Mabasa was arrested immediately after receiving the bribe and appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate's court on Wednesday.
"He was granted a thousand rand bail while police continue their investigation."
