Limpopo man exhumed from grave in alleged ritual incident
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Authorities have condemned the latest alleged ritual incident outside Tzaneen.
Police in Limpopo have linked the discovery of a body in the Tzaneen area to the defacing of a grave in the Tours village, in what is believed to be yet another ritual incident.
Officers were recently called out after the body of an unknown man - with certain body parts missing - was discovered in a field.
Two women were visiting the gravesite when they noticed the grave had been opened and the coffin emptied.
"The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but ritual related may not be ruled out," police said in a statement. "The suspects in this matter are still unknown and there is no arrest."
The acting provincial commissioner Jan Scheepers has warned that police will take 'merciless' action against those involved in ritual crimes.
Limpopo has seen a number of ritual incidents, including an incident in February, in which a woman was found beheaded in her home in Phalaborwa.
