Limpopo police are investigating domestic violence as the cause of the death of a couple in Mankweng outside Polokwane.
It is understood that the 40-year-old woman had an argument with his 47-year-old boyfriend on Sunday.
The woman opened a case of intimidation against him at the local police station after he apparently threatened to shoot and kill her.
Police arrested the man, but he was released on bail on the same day.
He then went to his girlfriend's home, where he shot and killed her before committing suicide at his home.
Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo said they are investigating cases of murder.
"The pair apparently got into a heated argument and the man thereafter threatened to shoot the woman with his firearm. The suspect went to the victim's home in Ga-Makanyea at about 23:30 and shot her dead and then drove off. He was later found dead with a gunshot wound at his home in Ga-Kgole. The firearm used was found next to his lifeless body."
