Limpopo matriculants ‘surpassed expectations’ - Ramathuba

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba says the province’s matriculants surpassed expectations.

The province achieved a pass rate of 85.1% in the 2024 National Senior Certificate, an increase of 5.5% from 79.5% achieved in 2023.
The improvement has moved the province up to sixth place nationally.
Speaking at the release of the province’s results in Polokwane on Monday morning, Ramathuba said the improvement bodes well for the Class of 2025.
“We want to be known for the province that out of the top 30 that the minister [of basic education Siviwe Gwarube] has awarded, eight come from Limpopo, and the top 3 come from Limpopo. That's how we want to be remembered," she said.
“We will work very hard to support infrastructure, whether it is the classrooms or learning-teacher material; they are now being delivered in time.
"Gone are the days they will not be delivered in time."
Mudau Wangoho, the country’s top maths achiever, attended Mbilwi Secondary School and wants to study Actuarial Sciences at the University of Cape Town.
"To the learners currently doing matric, I would advise them to work hard, to also set goals for themselves and work on achieving those goals and just make few sacrifices here and there for it will eventually pay off in the end," he said
The top achiever from Quintile 2 nationally, Maselesele Lalamani from Tshivase Secondary School, said she plans to study Astronomy at the University of Cape Town.
"My message to them (the Class of 2025) is that they should work very hard, stay disciplined, seek support, and use the resources wisely because they have many resources around them," said Lalamani.
"Their teachers are their resources. They should reach out to ensure that they are fully supported, and they start very early."
