Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the 62-year-old farmer and his wife (58) were assaulted, and the wife was allegedly raped, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

They were robbed the pair of the rifles, a bakkie and a television set.

"The vehicle matching the description given was then spotted on the Matlala road and the members tried to stop it, but it instead sped off, resulting in a chase,” says Mojapelo. “The members ended up managing to corner the suspects on the N1 south of Polokwane and apprehended two of them.

"The third suspect fled on foot and was later shot and injured when he allegedly tried to shoot at the members. He was then taken to hospital where he was admitted under police guard.”

The police managed to recover the stolen items.

"The suspects, aged between 28 and 38, will appear soon in Mogwadi Periodical Court on charges of house robbery and rape,” says Mojapelo.

"They will also appear before Polokwane Magistrate's Court for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of stolen properties.”
