Close to 60 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported at the mine in just four days.

Eighteen cases were recorded in just one day, on Wednesday.

“Exxarro Mine has since recorded 57 new cases cumulatively in the space of 4 days with 18 new cases recorded on Wednesday, the 24th November 2021 and that's a cause of concern."

Ramathuba says those who have tested positive and have symptoms, are people who have not been vaccinated.

“It is a worrying factor that the majority of those who tested positive and symptomatic are those who are not vaccinated while those who are vaccinated are not displaying severe symptoms and are just isolating at home,” adds Ramathuba.

“This is despite our effort and that of the mine to offer all workers vaccines at their workplace. Our honeymoon will soon be over, 4th wave is becoming another reality and we wish to call on  everyone to adhere to Covid-19 protocols. Those who refuse to be vaccinated are advised to start restraining themselves by staying away from gatherings.

“Let's join the millions of other South Africans and get vaccinated in order to save our lives. COVID-19 virus is still very much present. We are equally worried that our people are behaving as if the virus has been wiped away," concludes Ramathuba.
