Limpopo recorded 25 road fatalities over the past weekend, the department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed on Wednesday.
Transport MEC Florence Radzilani said the number of crashes is partly due to the fact that it was the end of the month, and the roads were extremely busy
She said the loss of more the 20 lives is nevertheless shocking.
The MEC reiterated that human behaviour leads to most of the crashes.
"Reckless driving and pedestrian involvement have been cited as the major cause of most of these fatalities. There are cases of suspected drunken driving as well," said the MEC's spokesperson Vongani Chauke.
"All these, are referred to as human factors, which include driver behaviour and conduct, and could be avoidable."
