The elite crime-fighting unit uncovered the plot and stopped the woman's plans dead in its tracks.

The 49-year-old woman, who is a former senior manager at Capricorn District Municipality, was arrested at her house on Thursday evening.

Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke says the estranged couple was finalising their divorce prior to the incident.

"It's alleged that the suspect hired three hitmen to kill her husband in exchange for R50 000. Premeditated murder was foiled and the suspect was arrested at her Polokwane home."
